Hi Reader,
I am receiving extra care the past few weeks as I get ready for top surgery and, with the care, has come an unexpected transformative healing beyond the generosity coming my way.
I describe it as being the current.
I spend a lot of time in giving mode. Receiving is way easier as I drop my "guard", but I can still resist help when I could really use a hand.
There are also moments now when I truly do not need help, and someone will have their own hard time with me saying "no, thanks". I find that fascinating, if my "no, thanks" when I truly don't need or want help, is taken as an affront, was it really help being offered?
Getting clear with giving and receiving is revolutionary work.
Same goes for the moments when I refuse the help I could really use. By insisting "I want to do it myself" in some stance of "I am not weak, I don't need support" I inflate some false belief running under the surface and set myself up for net loss, burnout and more.
What happens when acts of giving or receiving are experienced more like the bounce between molecules than a reflection of good or bad behavior?

Not to say gratitude, commitment, purpose or generosity aren't also in the mix, but this doubling down of the paradigm of judgment in the shape of this is good, this is bad, only serves to keep us falsely separated. Is receivership uncomfortable because it is seen as weak? What, and who, does this serve?
Can we appreciate without contempt?
Taking time to heal my body has never been this sweet. I feel ready, supported and excited to spend the next two months recovering, aligning and integrating, not only from top surgery, but also from severe burnout that was at it's worse back in 2020.
Which brings us to Burnout, and caring for Life in Winter.
